Tryst in Spain
Two youth teams from Tryst ’77 Handball Club have returned from Spain after taking part in an international handball tournament with teams from, amongst other countries, Brazil, Canada, Guatemala and India.
Tryst ’77 took 21 players to the tournament – one girl’s team and one boy’s team. Even though the standard of competition was, as expected, extremely high, the players performed admirably in difficult conditions and had an enjoyable and eventful experience.
The girls drew one of their matches and were almost able to match their opponents in their other matches. There was nothing much between all the teams in the group, which showed when the Spanish team that won the section and only narrowly defeated Tryst went all the way to the final. The girls also had to cope with playing outdoors in hot and humid temperatures, with a small squad and injuries to several players.
The boys did not win any of their matches but gave 100%. They can all be proud of their efforts.
A big thank you also to coaches Suzanne Gunnyon, Becky Fisher and Robert Doherty without whom the trip would not have been possible.
